Welcome to our Baby Room. This room can accomodate up to 11 babies aged from birth to approximately 2 years. The staff ratio is 1:3 in compliance with CSIW regulations.
Our bright and stimulating Baby Suite is based at the back of the nursery on the ground floor. We have a self contained kitchen where staff can store labelled bottles in our fridge and prepare them when required. It is a bright and colourful room which provides an inviting environment for your child to learn and play as they start to mobilise and utilise our wide range of age appropriate toys and equipment. In this room your child will enhance their social skills as they participate in action songs, rhymes and imaginary play.
Before your baby starts nursery, he/she will visit us for free settling in periods. Here you will meet your child's allocated Key Worker, a member of staff from the room who is responsible for recording your baby's development and who you can liase with on a daily basis. You will also be asked to complete a Baby Questionnaire so that we can follow your home routine as much as possible and make a smooth transition to nursery. At the end of each session you will be given a daily report form which records your baby's day at nursery and documents times of feeds, nappy changes, sleep times and daily activities. A member of staff will discuss this form with you and answer any questions you may have.
Our daily routine includes activities planned around the 'Birth to Three matters Framework' enabling our children to begin to experience the delights of messy play, including painting, cooking, jelly play, junk modelling and lots of other activities to enhance their fine and gross motor skills aswell as giving them the opportunity to express their personal preferences. We also introduce sensory play with sand, water and pasta. The children's artwork is either sent home or displayed at nursery for everyone to see. We try to take lot's of photos to display around the room, for you to look at when you collect your child.
Mealtimes in the baby room are a very social occasion as all the babies who can eat solids sit in a circle in high chairs in our baby dining room. Our meals are healthy home cooked foods that are blended to a texture that is suitable for your child. Younger babies start on pureed fruit and veg until they are old enough to be introduced to other food substances. We work in partnership with our parents and formulate a weaning programme together. The older children are encouraged to develop their independence as they learn to feed themselves with the assistance of our caring staff who sit beside them. We also introduce personal hygiene issues as face and hand washing rituals are practiced before and after meals.
Twice a day our mobile children have the opportunity to run around our garden and learn how to co-ordinate their movements on the bikes and climbing frame. We encourage lots of outdoor play and walks around the nursery garden whilst our babies watch the birds and wildlife. We also have a separate baby garden that we are in the process of developing into a baby sensory garden.
The Baby Room staff pride themselves as they provide flexibility and individual care whilst encouraging the children to explore their personal preferences as they fit into nursery routine.All of our staff at Oakfield work closely together to make sure the transition from each room is a happy time. As your child moves into their next stage of nursery they will visit their new room and spend time with the room staff to familiarize themselves in their new environment.
